WORDSTEM

Privacy Policy

Effective 2026-09-04

Wordstem ("the app") is a daily word-origin guessing game. This policy explains what information the app handles, how it's used, and where the word data in the game comes from.

information we collect

Wordstem does not require an account, and does not collect your name, email, or any personal profile. Your streak, stats, and settings (reminder time, dark mode, sound/haptics) are stored only on your device, using local on-device storage — never on a server, and never tied to an identity. Uninstalling the app deletes this data.

advertising

Wordstem shows ads through Google AdMob (banner, native, and optional rewarded-video placements). AdMob may collect device and advertising identifiers, general (non-precise) location, and app usage data to serve and measure ads, per Google's own privacy practices. Wordstem does not receive or store this data itself.

notifications

The optional daily reminder is scheduled entirely on your device. No notification content or scheduling data is sent to a server.

daily puzzle content

Each day's puzzle is fetched from a content delivery network as a small JSON file, so puzzle content can be corrected without an app update. This request does not include any personal or device- identifying information beyond what's inherent to any network request (e.g. IP address, handled by the CDN provider, not by us).

children's privacy

Wordstem is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

your choices

Since all gameplay data lives on your device, you're always in control of it — clear it by uninstalling the app, or manage ad personalization through your device's ad settings or the link above.

third-party data & attribution

Wordstem's word data is derived from the kaikki.org machine-readable English dictionary, based on structured data extracted on 2026-08-28 from the enwiktionary dump dated 2026-08-05 using wiktextract (872fc7b and 4deed51). The data shown has been post-processed — filtered, reranked, and hand-reviewed — before use as daily puzzle clues. See kaikki.org's raw data download page for the unprocessed wiktextract data.
